Cybernetica

business overview

Cybernetica builds future-proof technologies for secure digital societies, combining over 25 years of experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, and e-governance solutions.

As the architects of Estonia’s digital transformation success story, we have provided both the research and practical applications for secure digital services. We developed the core technology that powers the e-Estonia ecosystem with its essential building blocks: time stamping, X-road, internet voting, secure mobile digital identity technology, mission-critical systems for the Tax and Customs Board, and more.

Today, our expertise is trusted by governments and organisations worldwide seeking to strengthen their digital capabilities. Our unique expertise ranges from secure data exchange to digital identity, e-voting, information security, situational awareness and more. Currently our technologies are used in more than 40 countries worldwide, on 6 continents.

core competence

Cybernetica focuses on five core areas of operation: data exchange technologies, digital identity technologies, cybersecurity services, tax and customs information systems, as well as surveillance systems and marine radio communication.

e-Governance core technologies

  • Secure data exchange and interoperability, enabled through the Unified eXchange Platform (UXP), are widely regarded as the backbone of any successful digital transformation. As a next-generation evolution of the Estonian X-Road, UXP connects fragmented agencies into secure, interoperable ecosystems, ensuring legal assurance and safeguarding citizen rights. By enabling governments to provide a seamless, trusted data-sharing platform for public and private sector organisations, UXP supports human-centric services and streamlines back-office processes.

  • Splitkey. A digital identity technology that turns mobile devices into secure
authentication and qualified signature devices. SplitKey technology powers Smart-ID applications across the Baltics, Iceland, and Belgium, serving 3 million users and processing 85 million transactions monthly.

  • Privacy preserving technologies like Sharemind enable governments and companies to analyse sensitive data without compromising individual privacy. Sharemind protects data better than standard databases thanks to secret sharing, which allows sharing records with partners while retaining control. Use cases include genome data research, healthcare analytics, and more.

cybersecurity in defence

In addition to e-governance, Cybernetica is an expert in cryptography and cybersecurity, especially in the defence domain. Our expertise spans from foundational cryptographic research (including post-quantum cryptography) to mission-critical defence applications.
